Kites
Kites is a series of paintings produced during my residency at ColArt’s London headquarters, in Spring of 2018.
The series explores the concept of redundancy of everyday objects through the context of the kite flying ban in Pakistan. Further themes include the misrepresentation of context and social behaviour, alienation of minority populations and the emotions associated with a sense of belonging and home.
The series was painted using ink and gouache on cotton rag paper, a first delving into the use of acrylic inks as a painting medium with water. The subject of kites is depicted with translucency, evoking a sense of motion and play with light. The effects of the medium in flow during the process of making is captured in the paintings at a micro level, reflective of natural and organic matter.
