Seven public art floral murals commissioned for the White Dots project in Shepherds Bush Market in collaboration with Kindred Studios.
The floral and hybrid motif designs were inspired by the textile prints, flora, fauna and fruits offered through the market stalls, representative of the global cultures from which they stem.
The seven designs by Sara Choudhrey were based on art and design influences spanning several hundred years with cross-regional relevance. Taking inspiration from the history of design in local and neighbouring boroughs, the motifs incorporate references to the British Arts and Crafts Movement, Moroccan wooden paintwork and ceramics, Ottoman tiles and Persian art.
Interactive Public Art with Augmented Reality
An additional exciting element of this project has been to bring these designs to life using augmented reality. Using a smartphone, visitors are able to activate custom animations on-site in real-time, where each mural appears to grow and float in mid-air.
